Jonathan Maberry is the Bram Stoker Award-winning author, writing teacher and motivational speaker. His novels include GHOST ROAD BLUES, DEAD MAN’S SONG and BAD MOON RISING (Pinnacle Books); and PATIENT ZERO (due from St. Martins Press in ’09). His nonfiction works include VAMPIRE UNIVERSE (2206), THE CRYPTOPEDIA (2007), ZOMBIE CSU: The Forensics of the Living Dead (2008), and THEY BITE! (2009), all Citadel Press.
He recently a major three-book deal with St. Martin’s Press to write a series of bio-terrorism thrillers that will introduce a new action hero, Joe Ledger; the first book in that series, PATIENT ZERO, is scheduled for release in early 2009.
Jonathan has sold more than 1100 articles, twenty nonfiction books, six novels, as well as short stories, poetry, song lyrics, video scripts, and two plays. His play Tales From the Fire Zone, was produced on both coasts in the early 1980s.
His nonfiction works include Vampire Universe: The Dark World of Supernatural Beings That Hunt Us, Haunt Us and Hunger For Us (Citadel Press, 2006), and The Cryptopedia: A Dictionary of the Weird, Strange and Downright Bizarre (Citadel, 2007); Zombie CSU: The Forensics of the Living Dead (to be released in September 2008); They Bite! (2009); and Vampire Hunters and Other Enemies of Evil (2010). Jonathan is also the author of The Vampire Slayers’ Field Guide to the Undead (under the pen name of Shane MacDougall; the book was released in 2001).
Jonathan is the Executive Director of The Career Doctor for Writers (www.careerdoctorforwriters.com), which provides workshops, classes and editorial services for writers of all genres. He tours libraries and independent bookstores giving his Careers in Writing lecture to packed houses. Jonathan is a speaker for the National Writers Union, and a writing mentor for the ITW (International Thriller Writers), MWA (Mystery Writers of America), and HWA (Horror Writers Association).
His short story, Doctor Nine, was selected to be the lead piece for the Killers anthology, the official souvenir book of the World Fantasy Convention; and Pegleg and Paddy Save the World, which appeared in History is Dead, was a finalist in the Preditors & Editors Reader’s Poll.
Jonathan is frequent writers conference speaker and has appeared at PennWriters, PhilCon, HorrorFind, BackSpace, Monster Mania, Philadelphia Writers Conference The World Horror Convention, the Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Conference, LunaCon, University of Pennsylvania Writers Conference, and many others and in 2008 he will be the keynote speaker at the Write Stuff writers conference in Allentown, PA and Sisters in Crime (New Jersey); and will be a featured speaker at PennWriters and the Bedford Springs Literary Series.
Jonathan is a founding partner of The Writers Corner USA. a writers’ education center in Doylestown, PA (www.writerscornerusa.com). He is a founding member of THE LIARS CLUB, a group of professional authors that includes bestsellers D H Dublin, Gregory Frost, L A Banks, Kelly Simmons, Duane Swierczynski, Ed Pettit and Emmy Award-winning producer Laura Schrock.
In 2004 Jonathan was inducted into the International Martial Arts Hall of Fame largely because of his extensive writings in that field. His martial arts books include E.S.M: Effective Survival Methods (Vortex Multimedia, 1985); Introduction to Asian Martial Arts (Vortex Multimedia, 1986); The Self-Defense Instructor’s Handbook (Vortex Multimedia, 1990); Judo and You (Kendall Hunt, 1991); Ultimate Jujutsu Principles and Practices (Strider Nolan, 2002); The Martial Arts Student Logbook (Strider Nolan, 2002); Ultimate Sparring Principles and Practices (Strider Nolan, 2003).
